We are a family owned and operated Horse Starting and Training facility aimed at educating horses for all disiplines and riders of any skill level.

Jimmy specializes in starting and re-starting horses, and with over 35 years’ experience in the equine industry he is an expert at problem solving and working with troubled horses.  Jimmy is dedicated to bettering himself and his horsemanship and he is committed to helping others create a better relationship and understanding between horse and human. 

At Jimmy Braithwaite Horsemanship we are very passionate about our work, and we aim to provide the horse with the optimum training experience. We endevour to teach the horse how to control itself, so it learns how to conrol its own emotions making it less reactive and therefore safer. Jimmys caring and holistic approach to the horse, its physical, mental, emotional and spiritual being, along with his respect and trust for the animal results in a happy, relaxed and confident horse. 

Jimmys greatest teacher is the horse itsself, and he adjusts his training techniques to suit each individula animals needs.

We are situated on the East coast of the north island, 3km from the small coastal community of Uawa/Tolaga Bay. Our facilities include a roundpen, a large undercover arena with night lighting and steel holding yards. We have ample parking and cosy self contained cabins for hire. Our beautiful surroundings allow us the give both horse and rider a variety of riding opportunities with both spectacular hill counrty and stunning beaches.
